Privacy Policy for OpenNOW
This Privacy Policy explains how OpenNOW handles information when you use the app. It is intended to be factual and limited to what the current app actually does.

The use of "we", "our", or "us" in this policy refers to the OpenNOW project.

Last updated: April 20, 2026.

1. Overview

OpenNOW is an independent, community-maintained GeForce NOW client. OpenNOW is not affiliated with NVIDIA. The current project direction is zero telemetry: the app does not include its own analytics or ad tracking. Most app data stays on your device, and account authentication is performed against NVIDIA services.

2. Information OpenNOW Handles

Depending on which features you use, OpenNOW may handle the following categories of information:

  • NVIDIA account session data: access tokens, ID tokens, refresh tokens, client tokens, selected provider details, and basic account information returned by NVIDIA such as your user ID, display name, email address, avatar URL, and membership tier.
  • App settings and preferences: streaming settings, resolution, bitrate, codec preferences, selected region, keyboard layout, microphone mode, shortcut bindings, controller preferences, favorite games, window size, and update preferences.
  • Local media: screenshots and recordings you create using OpenNOW, including file names, timestamps, and local file paths.
  • Runtime device and session identifiers:temporary identifiers used to communicate with NVIDIA and start or manage a cloud gaming session.
  • Optional integration data: if you use queue selection features, OpenNOW may request GeForce NOW queue data and region-mapping data from PrintedWaste services.

3. How Information Is Used

OpenNOW uses information only to operate the app and the features you choose to enable.

  • To authenticate you with NVIDIA and keep your session signed in between launches.
  • To launch, manage, and stop GeForce NOW sessions.
  • To remember your local app configuration and streaming preferences.
  • To save screenshots and recordings on your device when you use those features.
  • To check GitHub Releases for app updates if you enable automatic update checks on supported desktop builds.
  • To show live queue guidance using PrintedWaste data if you use that optional feature.
  • To send your current game title to Discord only if you enable Discord Rich Presence.

4. What Stays Local

OpenNOW stores core app state locally on your device or local user profile. This includes app settings, saved session state, and media you create with the app. Screenshots and recordings are stored locally and are not uploaded by OpenNOW as part of normal operation.

On desktop builds, settings and authentication state are stored in OpenNOW's local app data directory. On Android builds, equivalent state is stored in local app preferences and local app storage.

5. Third-Party Services

OpenNOW communicates with third-party services only where required to provide app functionality.

  • NVIDIA: used for sign-in, token refresh, account information, subscription details, game catalog data, region data, and GeForce NOW session management.
  • PrintedWaste: used for optional queue and server-mapping data when queue-based region selection features are used.
  • GitHub Releases: used for optional app update checks and downloads on supported packaged desktop builds.
  • Discord: used only if you enable Discord Rich Presence.

These services operate under their own terms and privacy policies.

6. Permissions and Sensitive Features

  • Microphone: OpenNOW may request microphone access if you enable microphone-related streaming features.
  • Files and media: OpenNOW reads and writes local screenshot and recording files when you use capture features.
  • Browser sign-in: OpenNOW opens your browser or platform login flow to complete NVIDIA authentication.

7. Data Sharing

OpenNOW does not sell your personal information. Information is shared only with the services needed to provide the features you actively use, such as NVIDIA for authentication and cloud gaming, PrintedWaste for optional queue data, GitHub for optional update checks, and Discord for optional Rich Presence.

8. Data Retention and Control

Because most OpenNOW data is stored locally, you generally control retention by logging out, clearing local app data, deleting saved media, or uninstalling the app.

  • Logging out clears the saved OpenNOW session.
  • Resetting or removing app data clears saved settings and local authentication state.
  • Screenshots and recordings can be deleted from your device at any time.

Some information processed by NVIDIA, GitHub, Discord, or PrintedWaste may remain subject to those services' own retention practices.

9. Security

OpenNOW is designed to keep app state local where practical and to communicate with services over HTTPS. No software can guarantee absolute security, but the project aims to minimize unnecessary data collection and reduce exposure by keeping core app data on your device.

10. Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated as OpenNOW changes. Material changes should be reflected on this page by updating the text and the revision date above.
